A bit about my experience as a published author of books and other works

Writing and Publications

I have an established publishing record.  Over the last 15 years I have published four single-authored textbooks: Counselling Suicidal Clients (Sage, 2010), Challenges in Counselling: Self-Harm (Hodder Education, 2013), Working with Risk in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Sage, 2015) and one of Sage's best-selling counselling and psychotherapy texts, An Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy: From Theory to Practice (3rd Edition) (Sage, 2022).

Additionally, I am co-editor of three key texts, Key Issues for Counselling in Action (2nd Edition - with Prof Windy Dryden) (Sage, 2008), The Handbook of Individual Therapy (6th Edition - with Prof Windy Dryden) (Sage, 2013) and Standards and Ethics for Counselling in Action (5th Edition - with Prof Tim Bond) (Sage, 2021).

I am Series Editor for Essential Issues in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Sage), and co-Series Editor for forthcoming series, with Prof Lynne GabrielEthics in Counselling and Psychotherapy in Action (Routledge), where I am additionally writing two books: Navigating Relational Ethics - Working Ethically in Day to Day Practice (with Prof Lynne Gabriel) and Ethics and Single Session Therapy (with Prof Windy Dryden).

I was Lead Author for the Counselling MindEd e-Learning materials for the Department of Health, as well as writing other online materials for a range of organisations, including national Relate.

I have written numerous practitioner-facing materials, including Working with Risk in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Working with Suicidal Clients, both Good Practice in Action resources for BACP.

Additionally, I have written numerous book chapters and articles, published in practitioner and academic journals.
