Teaching and Training
A bit about my work as a professor and my professional training workshops

Teaching and training
I have delivered training to over 15,000 practitioners in the UK and internationally over a 20+ year period. Beginning my training experience as a Social Work Practice Teacher, I supported many early-career social workers as they joined the profession.
Later I began delivering training to health and social care workers on safeguarding, working with risk, suicide, self-injury and ethics.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and hold a Professorial position at the University of Chester, where I deliver training to undergraduate, Master's and doctoral level students on counselling and psychotherapy and psychological trauma.
I have led on the development of online training, as Lead Author for the Department of Health MindEd project, as well as writing in-house training programmes for many universities, Relate and RNIB, for example.
The excellent feedback I receive for my training work often mentions my warmth, accessibility, engagement and humour; making sometimes the most difficult and challenging subjects safe to explore.
This experience over many years has been both in face-to-face environments, as well as to smaller and larger audiences online using a variety of technologies, including Zoom, MS Teams, Collaborate and Blackboard, for example.
